He was created to portray a character of happiness and innocence, but beneath the shining exterior lay something much darker and real. The gloomier side has always been there as part of the animator’s subconscious inner turmoil and suffering but stays within the shadows. It only takes a glimpse of a reflective surface for even the most confident to see the opposing dark side that underpins existence.
