Talk to the hand

Social interactions are mostly unescapable, though some of us go to extreme lengths to avoid them at all costs. It is not the physical proximity that matters the most but more the risk that the interaction will be a one-way street of egotistical drivel from the other party. In situations of utter boredom, we can find a compromise and simply offer a hand to the talking party, regardless of whether it is inviting or not.
