It is a classic paradox that in the pursuit of accumulating things to fill the void, the emptiness that is trying to be avoided becomes more apparent. At a certain point, a realization is invoked that the absence of things is, in fact, where true contentment resides. As societal dysfunction overwhelms the psyche, it can be easy to feel despondent, like nothing matters, but it is the nothing that has essentially been lost, so it really does matter.
