Being told to pay attention to something can often have the reverse effect, especially for those prone to easily lose focus. Having an attention deficiency and being highly hyperactive was not long ago seen as being subordinate until finally society caught up to diagnose it as a disorder. The question is whether the rapid increase in identified attention disorders is an advancement in diagnostic techniques or a dysfunction of society.
